Priorities
The Alaska Association of Realtors does not expect to file any new bills. We will be monitoring the following priority bills:
HB 202 – The Fire Sprinkler Bill - This bill was introduced by the Home Builders and allows for an exemption to mandatory fire sprinkler systems in single family and duplex dwellings should the state adopt the new national building code. The new code mandates sprinkler systems in all dwellings. The added cost will cripple the building industry and push the cost of a new home out of the reach for many buyers.
HB 153 – Procedure for converting manufactured homes into real estate – This bill will define how and when a manufactured homes turns into real property and when it may stop being real property. It is an important distinction that needs to be put into law. We will be following its progress to make sure it happens correctly.
HB 145 – Licensing of Mortgage Lenders – This bill is needed to bring the Stat of Alaska into compliance with federal law. We will be monitoring this bill, but do not expect to take action.
